It's underhanded and Sam knows it. He really would have been quite happy just being Castiel's friend, even with what Gabriel had sketched out to him about his family. Seeing it in person, though? Sam wants to get Castiel out of here. Somewhere safer, where he can be himself and not try to live up to these ideals that will only end up with him unhappy or, at worst, dead at the hands of a Alpha who just doesn't give a shit.
Perhaps, he hopes, he can do both. Only time will tell. For now, though, he's willing to glare at Zachariah but settle back, the the rest of the room wash over him. And never take his eyes from Castiel, even though they can't have a conversation at the moment.
