And, therefore, not letting the boy get a word in edgeways. The rebuke in his tone is entirely for Zachariah. Which, really, it's lucky that he's dealing with Sam. Dean likely wouldn't be as polite about it.
The look he turns on Castiel is bright and welcoming, his smile wide as he reaches out his hand in offer to Castiel. "Hello, Castiel. I am very, very glad to have you here." Because, no, he hadn't missed the emotions that chased across his expressions. But there's no way other than this to help him believe that he IS welcome and wanted here.
