Sure, back then, Gabriel had been trying to show his cousin that there was more to being an Alpha than what the family said there was, that there were other, better ways to treat an Omega. But it served a different purpose in the end, showing Castiel that there was better to be expected, too. "What you have right now...it's not perfect. But if anybody in this world can make it work, you and Sam can."
