It takes him a moment or two to allow his back to relax, straightening up as he looks closer at the dragon. Probably not one that would be a good choice for a partner, unfortunately, no matter how much Sam personally liked his scales and eyes. Dragons that were out alone like this were loners for their own reasons and unlikely to take to a Hunter.
Which makes Sam sad, looking at the dragon almost wistfully before shaking his head. "No, not lost. Not much, at least. I know there's a dragon flock here in the mountains. I've come to speak with them, see if one might be willing to partner with a Hunter such as myself."
